Dr. Huddleston, his wife Kitty, and son John have been doing eye care missions to Mexico and Central America since 1986. Many of our special family days have been celebrated on a VOSH mission. Jay & Kitty celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Chiapas Mexico and John celebrated his 21st birthday in Oaxaca Mexico.
Our missions with VOSH are not all work however. We usually manage a couple of days seeing the local sights and entertainments. In Nicaragua of course we had to visit a cigar factory. One of the things that the people fleeing Cuba during the rise of Castro did for Nicaragua was to bring the seeds of their native grown tobacco plants. Planted in Nicaraguan soil the tobacco has a different flavor than its Cuban ancestor, but the industry has flourished and provides jobs for thousands of people in that tiny country. We visited a factory and met the "poster boy" (model) used to promote their newest line of cigars.
